I, HERBERT JOHNSON GEDGE of Prince's Buildings,
Ice House Street,Victoria in the Colony of Hong Kong,
a Member of the firm of Messrs. Johnson Stokes and
Master of the same place, Solicitors and Notaries Public
do solemnly and sincerely declare as follows:-
(1) I am a solicitor of the Supreme Court of
Judicature in England having been admitted there in the
year 1836. I am also a Solicitor of the Supreme Court
of Hong Kong (having been admitted there in the year
1890) and a Notary Public for the Colony of Hong Kong
having been admitted there in the year 1903 under a
Faculty from the Easter of Notaries in England. I
have been a member of the above mentioned firm of
Solicitors since the year 1900.
(2) I knew and was well acquainted with Mr.H.H.
Kirch and with his wife Mrs. Kirch (nee Dick-Melbourne)
who were residents in the said Colony of Hong Kong
from the year 1894 up to the 27th day of April 1899.
(3) Mr. H.H.Kirch (who had formerly been a
partner in the firm of Schelhass and Company of Hong
Kong, General Merchants) latterly carried on business in Hong Kong as a General Merchant under the style
of "H.H.Kirch and Co".
(4) The said Mr.H.H.Kirch was at or about the
commencement of the month of April 1899 indebted to
various firme and banks trading in the said Colony in
divers large amounts, and my said firm ware instructed to press for payment thereof and I had the conduct of
the business in that connection.
